It's all but a done deal, they're making a movie based on Stephenie Meyer's first novel, Twilight! Although there's not too many details yet, here is what we do know:
- Stephenie Meyer's original contract was with MTV / Paramount, when that contract lapsed in April 2007. When that happened, another contract was snatched up by Summit Entertainment, a company that has put the Twilight movie into a pre-production status since August 2007.
- Twilight's production company is Maverick Films, a company which also produced Agent Cody Banks and Material Girls and several other films both past and upcoming.
- Summit Entertainment is listed as a distrubutor, and they can work with a variety of production companies. If and when Twilight is released in other countries, they may have separate distributors.
- Catherine Hardwicke was announced the director in August 2007. Hardwicke directed the critically acclaimed Thirteen, and has been active in many different roles for films- such as art director, producer, writer, etc.
- Emily Browning is listed on Twilight's page as "rumored" for the role of Bella. It's hard to tell how serious of a rumor this is, but we're fairly certain it's a definite possibility!
- The person who will tell Edward & Bella's story in screenplay form is Melissa Rosenberg. So far, Rosenberg hasn't written or produced any other major films, but she has been a writer and producer for various hit television shows.
- Twilight is appropriately catagorized as an "Action / Romance"
- The film was originally listed to be released in 2010, in early October that changed to 2008. The change was probably simply because the production company had not made the production official and ironed out their plan for the fiml yet.
- Director Catherine Hardwicke and "her team" recently made a trip up to the Olympic Peninsula to see the towns of Forks and Port Angeles for themselves. It is rumored that the director has suggested she will try and film some of Twilight on the actual locations. However, it is typical in the film industry to film one of the story's locations in two completely different places.
